Blues Ladies have drawn Italian side ASD CF Verona in the UEFA Womens Champions League round of 32.
As an unseeded side, Blues will be at home for first leg on September 26th (kick off tbc) before travelling to Italy on October 3rd 2012.
Today’s draw at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon was an historic moment for Blues Ladies, as they prepare to venture into Europe for the very first time.
David Parker’s side qualified for the pinnacle of European women’s club football by virtue of finishing runners-up in the 2011 FA Women’s Super League, as did forthcoming opponents Verona in their respective domestic league.
Parker said ‘We’re happy with the draw but we understand that any team that has made it to the final 32 will be stiff opposition’ ‘We’ve come a very long way in these last two seasons and this will be a wonderful experience for everyone associated to the club, we can’t wait!’
The 2012 FA Women’s Cup holders will also chalk off another historic chapter on Bank Holiday Monday when Stratford Town’s DCS Stadium plays host to its first-ever live televised game on ESPN. Bristol Academy are the opponents (7.30pmkick-off) and admission details can be found here.
