Birmingham City Ladies are delighted to confirm the return of England forward Eniola Aluko to the club.
The vastly-experienced 24-year-old will be back in royal blue after a spell playing in America’s Women’s Professional Soccer league with Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat and Sky Blue.Aluko began her career at Blues, like her brother - Glasgow Rangers midfielder Sone, before moving on to star for Charlton Athletic Ladies and Chelsea Ladies.
The Nigerian-born player has represented England at two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2007 and 2011) and two UEFA Women’s European Championships (2005 and 2009).
By returning to these shores, Aluko is now hoping to be in contention for a place at the 2012 London Olympics. While hoping to aid Blues Ladies’ 2012 FA Women’s Super League campaign, Aluko will also continue to focus on her off-the-field career in law.
Commenting on her homecoming, Aluko said: “It feels good to back. It was a big decision for me to come back to England and play.“With the Olympics coming up I want to be in contention for the Great Britain squad. Also I’ve got an alternative career in law and that’s all going well with me continuing my legal training in London so there were many reasons pointing towards me playing in England.
“Birmingham’s a club very close to my heart and this was an easy decision for me.”
An exclusive, first interview with the returning star will be featured in this Saturday’s Blues News matchday programme.
The Blues Ladies squad for the forthcoming FA WSL campaign will be unveiled at St. Andrew’s before their male counterparts’ televisied npower Championship fixture against Southampton on Saturday (5.20pm kick-off).
