Sarah Mayling has committed to Blues for next season, with an option for a further 12 months.

The 21-year-old midfielder has agreed terms and says she is looking forward to a bright future at the Club.

“I am really happy to sign a new contract," she enthused. "I think everyone can see the direction the Club is going in, the staff and the way they are developing players. I can’t wait for next season.

“The coaches, staff, they give players the chances to play if you are doing well. There is opportunity at this Club.

“Everybody is on the same page. The atmosphere is really good and everybody has a mutual winning mentality; it’s a good club to be around.”

Mayling says that Blues strong showing in the second part of the WSL 1 campaign showed a sign of things to come.

“Everything just clicked. Consistency in the team was the main thing.

“We had more or less the same starting eleven. When you build those partnerships on the pitch and everything is working, then you get more results.

“We have had some good wins against some of the bigger teams in the league.

“It just came together. If we had done that earlier then maybe we would have hit the top. But it will stand us in good stead for next season.”

As for her own targets, it is to figure much more for Marc Skinner's side.

“I would have liked to have had a better season, shall we say. The first part was injury-based. That’s a learning curve for me.

“The second half of the season the team had been doing well so I couldn’t really complain about not playing that much. I was happy to fill in when needed and help the team.

“Obviously next season I want more, I want to play. The aim from pre-season is to be injury-free and fight for my position.

“We have got a good squad here. And that will only make you a better player if you have that kind of competition.”

After a fifth place finish to the WSL 1, there is hunger at Blues to stay on an upward curve - and go for silverware in the cups, too.

“We know we can beat every team in the league," said Mayling. "We are competing. We need to be consistent.

“Trophies are the main thing that shows your success. That’s the target for next season – I can’t wait.”
