Karen Carney began her football career at Birmingham City Ladies at the age of eleven, playing alongside the likes of Laura Basset and Eniola Aluko. At the age of fourteen, Carney made her first team debut for Birmingham City Ladies FC in the FA Women’s Premier League against Fulham Ladies FC.

Karen made her senior debut for England at seventeen, against Italy in 2005. Later that year, Carney made a name for herself having scored a last minute winner in the opening match of the European Finals.

In 2006, the winger signed for Arsenal Ladies FC and did a two-and-a-half year stint where she gained a whole host of silverware. Following a success time at Arsenal, Carney headed overseas to play for Chicago Red Stars before returning to Birmingham City Ladies FC in the same season the club lifted the 2012 FA Women’s Cup.
